Welcome

My name is Billy Hunt, and I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition to producing amazing imagery, I create a relaxed, positive space for my brides, grooms and everyone I photograph. My clients are discerning, thoughtful people, who not only want great imagery, but want to enjoy the experience. I love what I do, and I think that it shows in my work.

This website showcases my weddings, portraits and personal endeavors as an artist. Through it, I hope you can get a sense of who I am. Thanks for visiting and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feedback.

Thanks,
Billy Hunt

CLUCK – The Charlottesville League of Urban Chicken Keepers

February 23rd, 2009

Guinevere Higgins is the founder of CLUCK, The Charlottesville League of Urban Chicken Keepers, and needed some images to promote her worthy cause. Obviously, I was happy to volunteer. I am not sure why, but I think chicken portraiture suits me.

Another first with this shoot was that my 2.5 year old son William was my assistant. He did a great job holding the lights, but thought the chickens were a little “too flappy.”

Paola's Pregnancy Images

February 20th, 2009

My friend Paola is pregnant, with a capital P. Paola is naturally petit, and it is truly amazing how beautiful she is with her huge belly in these last few days of her pregnancy. I am honored to have had the chance to photograph her.

Paola is going to be a great mom, and I can’t wait to meet her new daughter.

Carrie & Eddie's book

February 18th, 2009

Here is the final version of the book we designed for Carrie & Eddie.  They put a lot of thought into which images they wanted to use, and in the end their hard work paid off.  We offer two types of books, ones with multiple pictures and ones where the layouts are designed.  This is the latter.  Check it out, and let us know what you think while you listen to everyone’s favorite song that has a bagpipe solo (Although sadly, the solo comes too late to hear it in the slideshow.  If you really need to hear that magic, come by the studio, have a beverage, and listen to Jeremy play it on ukulele, or I guess you could buy it on itunes).

Video as Art Class' Final Project – The Luxury of Fear

February 4th, 2009

The final project for the Light House Studio’s Video as Art class I have been teaching is on display at Second Street Gallery in February. There is an art opening for First Friday this February 6, 5:30 – 7:30 pm, with an artist talk at 6:30 pm. Please come out if you are in the neighborhood. These kids worked very hard, and I am proud of their accomplishment. Here is a little clip from the video to wet your beak.

When Animals Attack Preview 2

February 3rd, 2009

Sorry to digress yet again from my photography carer, but I wanted to show another rough clip of my band’s upcoming video “When Animals Attack.” Is it just me, or do I look like an undertaker with that torch?

Colleen and Glenn's Engagement Photos

February 3rd, 2009

My officemate and good friend Colleen College is getting married this year, and asked me to take some photos of her and her fiancee Glenn for an engagement photo. We decided to go over to the delicious Cassis, hang out, and allow me to capture the obvious love this couple has for one another. I can get a bit nervous photographing my friends, and Colleen is an amazing designer so I wanted the images to be great. I am happy with the result, thanks in large part to the hotness of Colleen and Glenn. Thanks you two. Its nice to hang out with the beautiful people.

Jeremy and Billy, BFF

February 2nd, 2009

One person who I do not mention nearly enough here is my assistant Jeremy Mullis. He is one of the smartest, kindest people I know, and has been invaluable in helping be figure out an endless number of things that define my look, and my business.

In addition to being an amazing designer, business person, photographer, and friend, he is also a stand-in model for most of my photo shoots, allowing me to try various lighting setups before the clients arrive. Since he does not need to pose (I am really only looking at how the light falls on him), photos I take of him have an irreverent quality that I always find interesting. Also, you will notice there are some wedding photos in the mix. I had to honor of photographing Jeremy and his wife Sarah’s wedding last year. Jeremy, thank you so much for helping me these past 2 years. I sincerely appreciate it.
