This Saturday, Jon Sheridan and I had the opportunity to help out at Revel, a fundraiser for The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative. In addition to a silent auction with a lot of really strong art, there was an installation where attendees were able to learn animal noises, make personal statements, and get photographed with mustaches (Jon and I handled the photography). Here is a small taste of the fun.

I am going to devote my Fridays in May do doing more free portraits of people looking for work. If you are unemployed, and would like a professional portrait done, contact me, and we will set something up.
Adriane Young is a musician, teacher, and activist who was kind enough to allow me to photograph her on a beautiful spring day two weeks ago. We worked at Studio 206 and at the farm where she lives, and I am very pleased with the imagery we produced together. I hope you like it too.

Marylyle and Jordan were amazing to photograph. Most everyone takes some time to warm up and get comfortable during a shoot. Not so with these two. Right out of the gate, they were engaging and funny, hamming it up and looking good. Plus they “made out” for the camera in the stacks of the library. Nice.

Jocelyn and I went on vacation to Miami last week. It was our first extended trip away from our son William, and although we sorely missed him, I will admit that sleeping in until 9:30 was a much appreciated luxury.
I love that Jocelyn and I can appreciate the over-the-top decadence of a place like South Beach, but not feel the need to adopt it as our own. No Lamborghinis for us this year, thank you very much. The rooftop pool though. I could get used to that. . .

I had so much fun with Mary and John last week. We went down to UVA’s campus and walked through the gardens, talking about love and life, and the viability of Amazon’s e-reader. Mostly about love and life though. Thanks you two.

The C-Ville did a behind the scenes look at my portrait session today. I am both hugely embarrassed, and a little proud of my falsetto featured at the beginning.
Today I devoted the day to providing free portraits to anyone who is unemployed, and looking for a job. I am so glad I did. You think about the big issues when you think about the recession: unemployment statistics, plant closings, stimulus packages. I think it can be instructive to listen to the stories of people whose lives have been impacted by this fiasco. Thanks to Gloria Maria Rockhold, Christian Dahlhausen, Jason Heuer, Daniel T. Moore, Mary Alice Blackwell, and Larry H. Mabry for sharing their experiences with me. They are all so cool, and I wish them the best of luck.
