My name is Billy Hunt, and I am a wedding and portrait photographer in Charlottesville, Virginia. In addition to producing amazing imagery, I create a relaxed, positive space for my brides, grooms and everyone I photograph. My clients are discerning, thoughtful people, who not only want great imagery, but want to enjoy the experience. I love what I do, and I think that it shows in my work.
This website showcases my weddings, portraits and personal endeavors as an artist. Through it, I hope you can get a sense of who I am. Thanks for visiting and feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feedback.
A rainy, blustery day could not stop Kara Burke and her relatives from getting together for some family love and a little song and dance at her parents 50th anniversary. I had the opportunity to spend a few hours at their home, photographing their reunion consisting of three generations of people. There are some pictures to come later, but here is a small video of Kara’s father and sister doing a duet and being adorable.
Jocelyn, William and I made a video yesterday reenacting a scary incident with a spider. It was so fun working with the family to make something interesting, and I like how it came out. I never knew my wife could act.
Keri and Patrick’s wedding was such a fun event. Keri was stunning, the weather was amazing and it was easy to see how happy of all their guests were for the new couple. Keri and Patrick are such appreciative and genuine people that they made sure everyone present was enjoying themselves. From the beautiful flowers that were handed out, to the yard games that were set up and the beer kegs, specially shipped from New Mexico, this wedding was unique and lovely.
Christy and Guy’s wedding was the first ever fusion of Billy Hunt Photography and Jason Keefer Photography. Jason is a great photographer to work with and I am really happy to have had the opportunity to do so. Christy and Guy’s after-wedding barbecue at Dogwood Hill was a cozy rainy night of friendship, food, a little dancing and a few furry animals. The warmth and love for the couple was eminent in the friends and family present. Here is a slideshow preview of Christy and Guy’s wedding day and post wedding celebration.
Keri and Patrick are a wonderful couple. With the October sunshine and a full moon in the evening, their wedding day couldn’t have been more beautiful. I think my favorite part was all of the quirky special touches they brought to the celebration, like a shark ring bearer’s pillow and a He-Man/She-Ra cake topper. Here is a sample of their day.
Sara and Peter are a couple of the owners of Monkeyclaus Recording Studio, among other things, and I have been friends with them since my old band, The Karl Rove, recorded there 6 or 7 years ago. Spending time with them is always amazing, as they show me how successful business and revolutionary action can be combined in ways I would never think of. I recently took engagement photos of them, and it was super fun. We went on an old bus in their field, and spent time out at their studio. Those guys know how to have a good time. I can’t wait to visit them again with my current band when we record in January.
For the first time ever, two titans of Charlottesville’s wedding photography industry, Billy Hunt and Jason Keefer, worked together to create a wedding photography juggernaut. It is kind of like Voltron, but without the sword.
Seriously, this is the first wedding I have ever shared with another photographer. Jason and Tammy Keefer and I shot different parts of the event, and it was super fun. I would love to do it again. Anyone interested, let either of us know, and I think we could form some type of wedding dream team.
Christy and Guy were amazing, or course. They are so perfect for each other. They are both caring, laid back people, with a lot of loving friends and family. Also, this is the first chance I had to photograph a bride with her pet rat. Here are a few sample images, with more to come later.
“Billy, this is Lea at OpenSpace, we loved your CLAW videos, and want you to make us a commercial. Are you Interested?”
“Huh?”
“I said, Are you interested?”
“You know this is Billy Hunt Photography, right? Not Billy Hunt Video? I don’t really know what I am doing.”
“I am sure you will figure it out.”
I am in awe of the people at OpenSpace. Jeff Gunther and his team pursue their goals with an fearless efficiency that is breathtaking, and a little scary. Plenty of people think employees should be able to do their jobs remotely. Not too many would make it a company policy, and build one of the most elegant spaces in Charlottesville for everyone to work in. Very cool.
Here is the video that Brian Wimer, Jennifer Tidwell, and I put together, with Gene Osborn writing the music. Please check it out, and let me know what you think. FYI, this is my first official job under my new company, Powhatan Studios. Billy Hunt Photography is about photography, Powhatan Studios is collaborating to create video and new media for businesses. Prepare to get your mind blown. Boom.
