2012 CLAW Photo Book. Need Sponsors and Photographers

I am compiling a photo book of Lady Arm Wrestling, and I need photographers and sponsors. Ideally, I would like the printing to be paid for by corporate and private giving, so I can give the proceeds from the book to help everyone’s favorite Women’s Arm Wrestling Charity, CLAW USA. If you have photographs from any of the leagues, send me an email.

Also, in designing the book, I made a photo mosaic of many of the photos I have taken of women’s arm wrestling. Almost 2700 images!

Beach House at The Jefferson Theater

The Jefferson Theater contacted me last week to photograph Beach House. I am so glad I did. The show was great. I have liked Beach House for a while as a casual listener, I knew they sounded great, but I had no idea they were so talented.

I was using the multi exposure feature of my camera for the show. Shooting some images in focus, some out, and others at different places on the frame. I think it gives the work a 70s look a bit, in a good way. Let me know what you think.

One of my Book Portraits is being Auctioned at The Bridge’s Revel

The Bridge, one of the coolest Art Museums/Nexuses of Revolution in the world, asked me to auction one of my Book Portraits for their annual Revel fundraiser. My work is in great company. Sam Abel, Jon Sheridan, Greg Kelly, Dave Moore, Rob Tarbell, Sharon Shapiro. Great artists, great people, great art. I can’t wait to see how cool the event will be.

Downbeat Project Music Video by Light House Students

I had a wonderful opportunity to work with some of the students of Light House for their Music Video class. One of the videos from the project was for local celeb’s, Downbeat Project, starring talented filmmaker and friend Clarence Green. Clarence, starred in the video, wrote the song, and mentored the kids to make their video. Talk about a lot of hats.

I think the kids did an amazing job. Nice work.

Second Street Gallery asked me to make a time lapse of Daniel Canogar’s new art installation, Reboot. In Reboot, Daniel uses discarded technology to project onto, with very beautiful results. It is really nice to see art that both causes introspection and is ascetically pleasing.

What is the value of a photograph? A book? Any physical object that is media? We live in a culture of expression, where everyone wants to be a photographer/filmmaker/musician/writer but no one wants to buy photos/films/cd’s/books. Everything we make competes for our attention with everything being made, and everything that has ever been made in the history of the world. Ouch.

Which brings me to my latest project. I have been photographing nudes using an antique polaroid camera, and printing them on torn out pages of old books. My goal is to repurpose what is no longer considered valuable, and perhaps add a bit back in. To make one-of-a-kind art objects using physical processes and materials, each image a unique edition of 1. Each one will be valued or thrown out, cherished or ignored. I think either would be interesting. What do you think?
